In this role as a Customer Service Representative/Patient Advocate, also known as a Healthcare Representative, you will interview and advocate for patients and their families to obtain maximum benefit coverage in a hospital or home health setting.

Location: ADVOCATE CHRIST HOSPITAL, OAK LAWN, IL
Schedule: MONDAY-FRIDAY 8AM-5PM or 10AM-7PM with rotating weekends and the ability to travel to different ADVOCATE locations throughout Chicagoland.
- Additional compensation will be provided for employees who work anytime after 7 PM on weekdays. It will also be provided for all weekend shifts worked.
What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?
Interview patients in a hospital setting and/or home visits and work effectively with hospital personnel to assist patients with obtaining maximum benefit coverage
Complete applications for state and federal programs (including Health Exchange/Marketplace programs)
Achieve and maintain certification designation as “Certified Application Counselor”
Review medical records and take all necessary actions to expedite benefit approval
Adhere to company and legal standards regarding Protected Health Information (PHI), Personal Identifiable Information (PII) and Personnel Transaction Identifier (PTI)
Maintain ongoing communication with government agencies regarding the status of claims
Provide updates and assistance to hospital personnel and other Change Healthcare staff as needed
Maintain documentation of status of claims and client contract on Change Healthcare and/or hospital computer systems
Determine when to use a Federal, State or Local program application based upon medical definition of disability as it relates to body systems and to functions of daily living, and information contained in medical records.
What are the requirements needed for this position?
1-3 years of relevant hospital and healthcare experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
Demonstrated experience with strong work ethics and confidentiality pertaining to medical records
Intermediate computer/tablet skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
Reliable Transporation
What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
Bilingual candidates preferred - Spanish is highly preferred for this location
4-year college degree preferred
Knowledge of federal and state programs that will benefit coverage for clients
Demonstrated experience working with people of various educational and socioeconomic backgrounds
Meditech experience
What are the working conditions and physical requirements of this job?
General office demands
Prolonged periods of standing and walking in hospital facilities
Ability to travel within the Chicagoland area
Adherence to facility masking requirements at all times
How much should I expect to travel?
Employees in roles that require travel will need to be able to qualify for a company credit card or be able to use their own personal credit card for travel expenses and submit for reimbursement.
