In this role The Bilingual Hospital Financial Counselor is responsible for screening patients to determine financial responsibility and the ability to pay for services (Point of Service Collections). The counselor adheres to collection guidelines/criteria as well as maintains compliance with self-pay payers in regards to federal, state, local and private regulations. In addition they assist potential eligible candidates with applying for State Medicaid programs. What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?
Ensure all insurance requirements are met and inform patients of their financial liability prior to or during admissions in the Emergency Room.
Request and collect needed verifications for processing
Provide an accurate daily collections report to be shared with BIDMC and Change Healthcare.
Conducts analysis of patient’s financial status and advises patient on the best course of action for payment of obligations to the hospital.
Advises patient of the possible consequences of non-payment.
Inform patient of the hospital sponsorship (Charity) application and explain the process.
Assist eligible self-pay candidates to complete Financial Assistance and submit State Medicaid applications
What are the requirements needed for this position?
1 to 3 years of Customer Service-related experience
High School Diploma or GED,
Experienced with computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and data entry software
Bilingual (Spanish and English)
What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
Comfort working in ER/Hospital setting
Experience with MassHealth (Medicaid) and Charity Care (Financial Assistance) application process highly preferred
Experience in Healthcare and/or insurance billing
Time management skills and attention to detail
Strong communication skills, work ethics and confidentiality
Demonstrated experience working with people of various educational and social economics background preferred
Evaluating Self pay patient for Medicaid and completing applications via Walk-ins or at bedside
Some college preferred but not required

Onsite at BIDMC-Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking and keyboarding in hospital facilities
